This video is going to be about how I maintain my weight…it’s called Intermittent Fasting 16/8 method.

In this video I’m going to tell you about HOW I eat and why it works. And in my next video I’m going to give you an idea of WHAT I eat on a weekly basis and why.

I am not a Nutritionist or Dietician. I’ve been eating the way I do for over 20 yrs now, and it’s just an eating style and pattern that has always worked for me. I’ve never been someone who diets, nor have I ever struggled with my weight. I’m 5’ 3.5” and I weigh 110 lbs.

I eat the way I do for 2 reasons.

1. Because I “feel” my best when I eat this way….meaning I have the most energy…and I’m rarely hungry, which means I’m not always thinking about what I’m going to eat next (which leaves you feeling helpless sometimes leads to excessive snacking).

2. Because I have a certain idea or goal in my mind about the way that I want to look, dressed and undressed, and this style of eating has always worked to achieve that goals for me.

So what Intermittent Fasting is, is basically an eating pattern where you have about an 8 hour window when you eat, and a 16 hour window when you fast. There is actually scientific and physiological explanations for why it’s a healthy practice and why it is so efficient in keeping energy levels high, weight off and allows you to maintain muscle tone with light exercise.

The way that Intermittent Fasting is explained in the literature is that when you begin eating a mea,l or food in general, your body naturally goes into a digestion and absorption phase that can last for 2-5 hours. When your body is actively digesting food it is very difficult for your body to burn fat because insulin levels are high and energy is being used to digest your food. Believe it or not digestion requires a lot of energy, which to me, explained my fatigue after eating breakfast.

Now after the 2-5 hours it takes your body to digest the food, typically you’re ready to eat again. So again, you eat and you initiate digestion and absorption phase which requires energy and doesn’t allow for much fat burning since insulin levels are once again high. So there’s 2-5 MORE hours that your body requires to digest your food.

After you’ve eaten your last meal, and after 2-5 hours have passed, your body is no longer processing food. So when your body is no longer processing food, insulin levels begin to drop and your body begins to burn fat. This is the fasting phase. But it doesn’t begin until almost 12 hours after you’ve eaten your last meal. So if you eat your last meal at 8pm, the fasting phase doesn’t begin until almost 8 am. This is when your body is able to burn fat that wasn’t accessible to it during the time your body was preoccupied with digesting the food you’d just eaten. So by not eating breakfast, you are allowing your body to continue to efficiently burn fat, and you’re also keeping your energy levels up because your body is not actively using energy to digest your food.

One thing about Intermittent Fasting is that it’s not so much considered a “diet” as it is a “pattern” of eating. It has less to do with what you eat and more to do with when you eat. However, that doesn’t mean in your 8 hour window you should be eating whatever you want and as much as you want. Binge eating junk food is just never a good idea for plenty of other reasons. You don’t want to fuel your body with junk that can lead to diabetes, high cholesterol, heart disease, blood pressure. So many illnesses stem from unhealthy eating habits.

How to Breed Ball Pythons

The goal of this article is to increase your chances of success at breeding ball pythons. I’ll lay out some quick and easy tips that’ll help you on your road to success in breeding these awesome animals.

Correct Sex – Insure your animals are properly sexed, and you do in fact have a male and female. There are two ways to determine the sex of a ball python one is by “popping” and the other is by “probing.” In my opinion popping is the easier method between the two, it doesn’t require any tools and there’s no danger or harm to the animal. To probe a ball python requires you to insert a metal probe backwards towards the tail into the left or right side of the cloaca. Once the probe is inserted you take a scale count to determine the sex of the animal. Males usually probe pretty deep around 8 or more subcaudal scales and females will probe around 2-4 subcaudal scales. I’ll cover more detailed instructions on how to determine the sex of your snake in another article, if for whatever reason you’re not confident in determining the sex of your animals find a qualified reptile veterinarian in your area for assistance.

Sexual Maturity – Males and females become sexually mature at different ages and weighs. Sexual maturity in ball pythons seems to be more determined by weight rather than age of the animal although age most definitely plays a role in sexual maturity. Females typically mature around two-three years of age and 1200-1500grams of weight, some may mature a little quicker or a little later but the gross majority will mature in this age and weight range. Males mature much quicker than females and usually mature between 6 months – 1 year of age although I’ve have a few young males breed as early as twelve weeks old! Breeding weight for males ranges in the area of 400grams for the little guys up to 800 or more grams for the larger first time breeders.

Seasonal Change and Temperature Drop – In the wild ball pythons are seasonal animals and typically breed between October and December in the rainy season, with egg laying season being around March and April. Baby ball pythons begin to hatch and take their first meals after the rainy season when prey items are abundant. Now in captivity, they can be breed year around, but having some seasonal change and temperature drop does increase your chances at having maximum production. I like to start gradually dropping my temps in November a degree or two every week until I reach my peek temperature drop of 5-7 degrees lower at night from my daytime high temperatures which in the off season are 85-87 degrees. In the breeding season I work my way down to 80degrees for a night time low on the hottest side of the tub for three or four months and then work my way back up to my off season temperatures of 85-87degrees.

Pairing them up for Breeding – Once you’re determined you do in fact have a male and female and they are in the age and weight of sexual maturity it’s time to start pairing these animals up for breeding. I introduce my males into my female’s tubs and not the other way around because female ball pythons put out lots of pheromones during the breeding season and these pheromones are great at signaling male ball pythons that it’s time for breeding. Once I introduce the male to the female I leave the pair uninterrupted for 24 hours after which I check to see if they are actively breeding, if they are I give them another 24 hours, if they’re not I move the male to the next female’s tub and start the process over. Once the male has successfully copulated with a female I offer him a small meal which is usually a small rat and 48 hours rest. Once he’s well rested I repeat the process. I continue this process of pairing up my males with females until the females have either ovulated or it’s clear that they are not going to produce for the season.

Ovulation – Being able to correctly identify a female ball python ovulating is extremely useful when breeding for maximum production. Here are a couple of quick tips to help you identify an active ovulation and a female that has already ovulated.

Identifying an Active Ovulation – A female ball python that is actively ovulating will have a very noticeable swell to the lower 3rdportion of her body; she may even appear to have just eaten a large meal. You’ll also notice her tail is sucked in to her body in an awkward “L” shape. That classic position is known as the “Suck” to veteran ball python breeders and it’s a great indicator that the female is in the process of ovulating.

Ovulation has occurred – If you happen to miss the active ovulation, all isn’t lost, and you can still tell if your female ball python has ovulated by uses these quick tips. First off, simply watch her over the course of a couple days and see where she spends the majority of her time. Is it on the cool end of the tub or hot end? If it’s on the hot end of the tub then chances are your female has already ovulated and no longer needs to be bred. If she’s still seeking the colder end of the tub and wrapping the bowl then chances are pretty good that your female hasn’t ovulated and she still needs to be bred.

Egg Laying and Incubation – After ovulation your female ball python no longer needs to be paired up with a male and you can start setting up the incubator and making arrangements for the ball python hatchlings. Right around three weeks after ovulation she’ll go into a shed cycle known to veteran breeders as the “POS” which stands for “post ovulation shed.” Following the “POS” you’re looking at around 30-40 days until your female lays a clutch of eggs.

Wolf Pack Territorial Fight

We have been taking glimpses into wild wolf society to help us understand dog instinctive behavior (both good and bad) that we observe in our pets. We find fascinating organization and rigid structure in wild wolf society, with swift, consistent, fair discipline and clearly drawn lines of leadership, support, and boundaries. The importance of coordinated participation from every wolf pack rank in the hunt, territorial fights, and really all other times, help us to understand the roles of dogs with different personalities, how they seek to interact with us and with other animals, and the kind of leadership and boundaries that your domestic dog expects from you — without which he is miserable!

A wolf’s sense of smell is at least 20 times stronger than ours (and so is that of your domestic dog). A wild wolf’s hearing is more than 40 times better. So the scent of a wolf pack that is trespassing is picked up by the pack that owns the land even if they are hours away from the trespassers. The wind carries scents and sounds.

Territorial fights are rare among rival wolf packs. Nine times out of ten, the trespassing wolf pack flees when the wild wolf pack who owns that land shows up. Even if the owning pack consists of only three wild wolves and the rival wolf pack consists of nine, the trespassers will still run. The landowner is the winner.

If the trespassers refuse to leave, then the male alpha leaders will begin a fight. The wolf pack members on both sides will stare as they look on to see who will win. (Mares do the same thing when stallions fight.)

The two alpha leaders rarely decide to draw blood on one another. It is more so a question of who raises his head the highest, or the first one to be pinned down on his back has lost.

Sometimes during the fight, in a clever ploy, a wild wolf on the side of the defending wolf pack will cross over to the other pack and steal a couple of adolescents. The leader of the trespassers will look at the theft, and thus lose the fight because of the distractions. The victor alpha leader will not allow the adolescents to return. They will become part of his wolf pack.

After a fight, the victors remark their borders. They completely drench the borders with such potent scent that it would make human eyes water. They groom and lick every bit of the new members to remove the scent of the old wolf pack, and then they rub their own scent on them.

Contrary to popular belief, much communication between rival wolf packs is simply that — communication — and not a challenge or threat. The alpha leaders constantly howl back and forth to each other about such things as how that year has been for them, if the pack is well or if they have had hard times, their victories, how much stronger the pack has grown, and such.

Wild wolves also howl friendly greetings to their relatives. For example, an adolescent female may cross over to a rival wolf pack and become a part of it, never to return to her birth pack. Still, those in her birth wolf pack will howl news and salutations to her. Relatives can cross territorial borders for a visit if first given an invitation; without invitation, though, the visitor would be fought for breaching the border. Her own pack would attack her, too, because that is against wolf law.

Rival wolf packs always respect each other, and their respective alpha leaders honor the position of the other as the leader of the pack. They acknowledge the achievements and activities of the other wolf pack.

Sometimes a wolf pack is more led by its female alpha than a male alpha leader. There is no sexist attitude in the world of animals. She will scratch the ground and lift her leg to remind the trespassers of the proper border. Only the alpha pair lifts legs to mark. All of the other members (male or female) squat. If a territorial dispute should erupt when one of the wolf packs is female led, the dispute might be settled by a voice contest (howling) instead of an actual battle in which the pregnant leader could not participate.

So as you see, territorial fights are not all that common among wild wolf packs, and when they do occur, bloodshed is rare because things are normally worked out another way. Wild wolf society is replete with rules that apply to all wolf packs and which lend stability to their members.
